This piece is complete I just didn't want to post any intermittent shots of the work before I finished, but I forgot to take the final shot before I handed it over to the person who the portrait is of, he will be known as Mr R, and he is a great friend and support. I thought of doing this out of sheer ambitious desire, apart from the recent one of myself I haven't really been in to doing portraits, but I have been attended some life drawing sessions where I think this "desire" was spawn....
The final shot is my work space, a little blurry but just the way things are when I paint "blurry"...it's bizarre how things can get out of focus when I'm right in it I don't even notice(unless they announce themselves) when people come in..

"matter"
"Matter" is complete....simply it is a picture of someones brains blown out, why would I paint that...I don't know it is just what I saw on the canvas so I did a rough in my journal and then completed it on the canvas. Like with "what's the Q" and "MYWW" I have been able to rough it out then project it proportionately on the canvas, it is a process I have, in the past, struggled with.
I am now endeavouring on doing a portrait of a mate, it just came to me, shit I should do a portrait of Mac. I removed "MYWW" from the frame and stretched out a new canvas from old material and am now in the process of priming it, which I quite enjoy as I feel it gives a whole lot more ownership to the work.

a new begining
Well so I have done away with "the heart of it". I don't think I actually like it anyways and now I have started on something that is closer to my roots as an "artist", it's surreal, it's symbolic and it's minimal.
I primed it with house paint and then mixed up cobalt blue, warm red and a flesh tone and applied it straight over the top with no time for the primer to dry, the effect I got was perfect to what I had in mind...and then I sat back and visualized what I saw on the canvas. And what follows is the beginning.
Now I'm gunna let it sit a while got some more to do just layer a little...

"MYWW"
The latest installment a little late but it's hear I got lazy and lost motivation etc. and then just didn't care....I got a new job which was part of that, but now that I have a new idea and new process in thought. So I thought I'd better update this thing.
The latest piece I've called "MYWW" (my world war), the whole idea is about the carrying of burdens, which ties in with the last piece which is I suppose is about my continuing struggle with identity, "what's the Q" was aimed at the thought before you can get an answer you need to now the question, hence why I don't have an answer because there is so many little questions...
The idea behind the skin tint is from a still shot in a Nick Cave clip where there was a still shot and the lighting gave him this yellow and red contrast, the piece was completed in one weekend about two weeks ago, the item on the shoulders is styled from a yoke but isn't necessarily a yoke, it's just a symbol of the burden, the background is a blend of purple, black, blue and white. All the paint is acrylic as I find it is a damn easy material to work with.
My next piece is going to go on top of "The heart of it", I'm going to re-prime it after being inspired by a mate's words "nothing is permanent"....anyways I think that'll do for now enjoy the pics
